KITCHEN- MAY

BEFORE- View of the back kitchen wall that separates the garage from the kitchen. The door on the right leads to the garage.
AFTER- View of the rear wall. A custom built in replaces the two shelves that were in the wall recess. The old wall oven and the partition wall next to it have been removed, opening up the eating area and allowing light from the patio door to spill in.
BEFORE- View of the laundry closet, the garage door, and the recessed wall shelves.
AFTER- The laundry closet was opened up and turned into a alcove which now houses both the refrigerator and an all-in-one washer dryer.
AFTER- A close-up view of the wall recess shows a new custom built in that replaces the old wall shelves. The built-in was constructed out of cabinet grade birch plywood and solid pine... And painted to blend in with the wall.
AFTER- Another view of the built-in shows how the doors on each side conceal cubbies that will be used for storage. (The doors were added as an afterthought because we all agreed it looked a little too busy)
BEFORE- View of the laundry closet. The door to the left leads into the garage. Customer removed the closet doors and replaced them with a curtain because they interfered with the washer and dryer.
AFTER- The front wall of the laundry closet was eliminated and the area was framed to create the alcove shown...with all new plumbing and electric. The all-in-one washer dryer takes up less space which made room for a countertop and wall cabinet above.
BERORE- Wide angle view of the laundry closet wall.
AFTER- Wide-angle view of the laundry closet. The base cabinet next to the washer dryer is actually a wall cabinet which we modified. Base cabinets are only 34.5 inches tall, and we needed something 38 inches tall. It all worked out!
BEFORE- View of the entire kitchen taken from the rear corner of the eating area. The partition wall to the right next to the sliding door will be removed along with the wall oven next to it.
AFTER- The removal of the wall oven and the partition wall next to it opened up the entire kitchen allowing light from the door to brighten up the entire area.
BEFORE- This front on view of the entire kitchen is the most dramatic before-after set of pics in this entire album. The laundry closet, pantry closet, wall oven partition, and dining room wall will all be eliminated and-or modified.
AFTER- hard to believe it's the same kitchen – what once was a cramped eating area now feels open and airy and the former closed in kitchen is now connected to the dining room via the pass-thru opening.
AFTER- This closer wide-angle view shows how dramatic the pass-through opening is – it gives the entire kitchen a completely different feeling. A granite backsplash connects the pass-through counter with the kitchen countertop.
AFTER- Close-up view of the new slide-in gas range...the large grill covers all five burners..very cool! Homeowner did a great job choosing a tile backsplash that perfectly complements the granite countertop and blends in beautifully with the cabinets.
BEFORE- View of the main front wall – note the refrigerator and pantry closet to the left which will be moved and eliminated.
AFTER- with both the refrigerator and the pantry closet gone from the main wall, room was made for the new pass-through opening. The large single bowl sink also makes a very dramatic difference.
BEFORE- The 30 inch tall wall cabinets leave a large 2 foot high gap between them and the 9 foot tall ceiling. The entire kitchen is lit by a single fluorescent fixture.
AFTER- The new 42 inch tall wall cabinets with crown molding look much better with the 9 foot tall kitchen ceiling....and the new recessed lighting ads the perfect accent.
BEFORE- Great before view of the two main cabinet walls. The new kitchen sink will remain centered under the window with a dishwasher next to it, but the wall oven and the wall next to it will be eliminated.
AFTER- The new 8 foot high wall cabinets look much better with the 9 foot ceiling. New recessed lighting illuminates the entire countertop area.
AFTER- this coffeemaker is actually hooked up to a direct water line so fresh coffee can be made every morning with just the touch of a button!.... How cool is that!
AFTER- A close-up of the coffee maker shows the water line coming up through the granite which then goes into a water filter and from there into the coffee maker… And Whalah! Fresh filtered water for a hot cup of Joe!
BEFORE- View of the main entry off of the hallway. This 3 foot wide entryway feels very cramped because of the pantry closet and refrigerator. Once these are removed the entryway will have a much more open feel.
AFTER- With The refrigerator and pantry gone and a new pass-through opening, the entryway now feels completely different. The cabinets to the left are the perfect place to put keys and mail and even charge a phone with the new USB outlet.
BEFORE- wide-angle view of the entryway and laundry closet area. The tile floor beyond the entryway which leads to the front door will all be replaced with a new engineered wood floating floor that will continue into the kitchen and the dining room.
AFTER- The new wood floating floor now runs seamlessly from the front door all the way through the kitchen to the rear garage door. Combined with the new pass-through opening, The kitchen now has an open floorplan..great-room feeling.
BEFORE- Another before view
AFTER- The 4 foot wide section of cabinets next to the entryway.. Note the small cubby for mail etc. The recessed light in front of the refrigerator alcove was relocated from old laundry closet.
AFTER- another after view of the same area
BEFORE- View of the dining room wall. This is the partition wall which separates the kitchen from the dining room.
AFTER- View of the new pass-through opening in the dining room wall. The new granite pass-thru countertop measures 6 foot wide x 19 inches deep and projects into the dining room 12 inches.
AFTER- The granite top is notched around the wall on each side so that the casing for the pass-through opening rests on top of the granite- similar to a window sill. The granite is supported by three "invisible" 1/8 inch thick metal plates.
AFTER- The carpet was replaced with the new wood floating floor which runs 5 feet into the dining room as shown.
DESIGN DRAWING- this shows the kitchen floor plan as it was before the work was done.
DESIGN DRAWING- Kitchen floor plan – AFTER showing the new layout.
DESIGN DRAWING- this drawing was done specifically to show each piece of granite countertop. This was used to get an estimate for the cost of the granite.
DESIGN DRAWING- Before and after drawings of the front kitchen partition wall which separates the dining room from the kitchen
DESIGN DRAWING- Before and after drawings of the kitchen window wall.
DESIGN DRAWING- Before and after views of the laundry closet.
DESIGN DRAWING- Before and after views of the entryway cubby area. The final design was changed at the last minute and the open shelf cabinet shown in the drawing was replaced with a standard wall cabinet with a door.
DESIGN DRAWING- of the recessed built in for the television. The doors that were added on each side were an afterthought, and therefore were not part of the original design drawing.
