KITCHEN- SCALA

BEFORE- The door to the right leads out onto the back porch.
DURING- The load bearing wall which seperated the porch from the kitchen and dining room has been removed and replaced with a load bearing support beam. The porch floor which was sloped was torn up, new floor joists installed to level the floor, and a new
DURING- Close to completion:  New sheetrock walls and ceiling create archways while concealing the load bearing beams. New hardwood flooring has been covered with masonite to protect it while work is completed. New cabinets are in as well.
AFTER- Beautiful new hardwood floors, a large island complete with cooktop and range hood, and all new cabinets with granite tops complete this remodel. The old porch windows were replaced with new Pella vinyl replacement picture windows providing a beaut
Another after view of this beautiful kitchen. To the left you can see another space where the old kitchen cabinets were re-purposed to provide a bar area complete with a mini refrigerator.
A close-up view of the kitchen shows a custom built bookcase that accents the 100 year old brick fireplace. To the right a slide in range and ceiling mounted stainless steel range hood become the centerpiece of the island.
AFTER- another view of the kitchen shows the archways which conceal the load bearing support beams. New picture windows of the old porch provide a beautiful view of the valley below. Below the porch windows are cabinets with a custom made wood counter.
AFTER- this view looks to the opposite end of the kitchen great room to an open pocket door that leads to the new powder room and laundry room. The 100-year-old brick chimney to the right is for the fireplace in the first floor den.
AFTER- A closer view of the opposite end of the kitchen shows the large support column which runs through the island countertop. This provides support for the loadbearing beam which runs 30' from one side of the house to the other.
BEFORE - View of the foyer area off of the dining room. The open doorway leads to the front door foyer.
DURING- View of the side room after the walls and ceiling have been reframed and finished with new sheet rock. The wall to the left remains as it was because The homeowner did not want to continue into the other rooms with the new Sheetrock.
AFTER- The old kitchen cabinets were re-purposed to build a custom bar area. New under-cabinet lighting and a mini fridge accent the new bar.
AFTER- A wide-angle view of the same bar area shows how the new hardwood flooring runs seamlessly from the kitchen into the bar area.
AFTER- A close-up view of the bar area cabinets and counter. We were able to reuse the old kitchen cabinets and were very lucky to get a perfect fit!
AFTER- A final view of the bar area shows a custom copper countertop. The homeowner has her own arts and crafts business and she spent over 40 hours to custom make this copper counter. A selection of baskets adorn the cabinet tops.

BEFORE- View of the dining room alcove which will become both a powder room and a laundry room. A new partition wall will separate the double window on the outside wall and the large radiator below the window will be relocated.
DURING- View of the alcove area. This new partition wall will house the pocket door that leads into the powder room. A large return vent was also installed in this wall to provide proper airflow for the air-conditioning in the great room.

AFTER- View of the closed pocket door which leads into the powder room. This beautiful pocket door is made of solid Douglas fir and weighs almost 140 pounds. The heavyweight helps the door to operate smoothly.
AFTER- in this wide-angle view, the large radiatior to the left was relocated from the alcove onto the open porch area where it now sits.
DURING- view looking through the pocket door opening into the alcove area. The wall between the two windows house another pocket door which separates the new laundry room from the new powder room.
AFTER- View looking through the pocket door into the laundry room and powder room. All of The wood molding was fabricated from clear pine, custom cut and routed and stained to match the 100-year-old molding throughout the rest of the home.

DURING- all sheet rock work and hardwood flooring are complete as the new cabinets are installed.

BEFORE- This is a view of the back porch prior to the start of construction. As shown in this picture, we replaced the porch windows and door before taking the wall down.
DURING- The back porch floor was torn up, new floor joists installed to level the floor, and new plywood subfloor installed.

ARTWORK- The homeowner has their own arts and crafts business.  This is one of the old porch windows – the window that sat above the porch door – this stained glass art is a picture of this house.
